New to This Site? Need Help Deciphering the Deals?
Here at Cuttin' Up, I always strive to maintain information in such a way that it's easy for you to decipher. Until you get the hang of it, it might be a challenge. I've decided to tackle a post on how to decipher my deals that I post each week.
First off, when I post a deal for any of the stores I cover, you'll find several things.
On the first line, you'll find the item on sale and the sale price.
On the next line or lines you'll find your discounts and coupons. These will each have a minus (-) sign in front of them letting you know that you can subtract those prices.
On the last line you will find the price that you will pay per item.
Let me break it down for you a little more. Let's look at the example below:
Quaker Instant Oatmeal $5/2 - Buy 2
- $2 RR
- $1 printable - use 2
= $.50 each
The item that is on sale is Quaker Instant Oatmeal. It's on sale for $5/2. I tell you that in order to get the best discount, you need to buy 2
For this particular item, there are two discounts. The first is a $2 Register Reward. This prints after the transaction. The second discount is a printable coupon. I give you the link (right click on "printable" and select "Open in new tab"). I also tell you the value of the coupon and remind you that you can use two of them.
The final line tells you how much EACH box of oatmeal.
Here's another example:
Special K or Raisin Bran $2.50 - Buy 10
- $1/2 (7/25 RP) or printable - Use 5
- $10 catalina
= $1 each
The first line, again, tells you what is on sale, how much it costs, and tell you that you need to buy 10 for the best deal.
The second and third lines tell you that there are two discounts. You should find your one dollar off two coupon ($1/2) from the July 25th Red Plum insert (7/25 RP) or you can use a printable. I remind you that you can use five. The third line tells you that if you buy these items, a catalina for $10 will print after you pay.
The last line tells you that you will pay $1 for each box of cereal.
Hopefully, this will help explain the site. If you have any further questions or comments that might improve this page, please e-mail me at CuttinUpCoupons@gmail.com.
Make it from Scratch Classes!
At my last coupon seminar, I was asked about teaching some ladies how to make several of the things that I make from scratch such as yeast breads, pizza, jam, jelly, etc. After talking this over with my husband, I have decided to hold a series of "Make it from Scratch" classes here at my home. I plan on holding one a month the rest of this year. I will cover topics including (1) basic yeast bread and flavored yeast bread (2) Pizza crusts and Hamburger/hot dog buns (3) Bagels, Tea Ring, and Butter. (4) Jam, Jelly, Syrup, and Pickles.
The cost for each class would be $40. The cost will cover the class fee and baking/cooking supplies for the class. When you leave each class, you will take home (or eat here) a portion of what we bake, the recipes for what we made, and for some of the classes a type of equipment necessary to make what we did that day.
Classes will be held on the following Fridays(1) September 24th 1-4pm (2) October 22nd 9am-12pm (3) November 19th 1-4 pm (4) December 11th 1-4 pm.
E-mail me at CuttinUpCoupons@gmail.com if you are interested in attending these.

Our Stockpile Storage Journey
One of the questions that I often get asked when I teach one-on-one coupon tutoring or teach one of my coupon classes is "where do you put everything?" Well, if I told you where I keep my food now, you'd throw up your hands and say, "Well, there you go. I can't do what she does. I have no where to put my food."
So I want to tell you a little about my storage journey. After coming home from my first few 'real' couponing trips, I realized that I was going to have to find a place to stash my goodies. I have a 'pantry' which is six shelves about ten inches deep.
I started by filling my pantry. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, it took little time to fill up that little pantry. I was left with a dilemma. Where do I go next? I considered my options. Then it dawned on me that I have a lone cabinet in our garage. I don't know if it was left over from when the cabinets were installed in the house, so they just put it in the garage, or something else. We used to store some banners of some sort in there. I moved the banners and commandeered my cabinet.
(Like the kids scissors in the hose holder?) This gave me a good start. Being in my garage, I couldn't put any jarred or canned goods out there in the winter, but it was great for storing pastas, potato mixes, chips, jellos, etc. As you other couponers can imagine, that cupboard didn't last me long, so I was soon on my journey to find the next place that my stash would overthrow.

Weekend Coupon Preview
This week there aren't supposed to be any coupons. While this may be dissappointing to some, I personally am thankful for a week off! Now that being said, the last time I said this, we ended up getting a General Mills insert, so make sure you keep your eyes open just in case.

Preparedness - Grab n Go Bags - Foods - Part III
If you're new to this Grab and Go series, you can read the previous two parts here and here. In the first article I discussed whether or not you should take foods that need heated. In the second part, I discussed easily transportable foods. Today, I'm going to talk about the shelf life of foods.
Most prepackaged foods have a rather lengthy shelf life. Even then just because it's past the 'use by' date doesn't necessarily mean that they go bad the next day. While you should absolutely make sure you use discretion on whether or not to use something that is close to it's expiration date, you need to know that the FDA mandates the dates that need to be put these items. The expiration dates are controlled by a government which is stockpiling their own supplies. I personally don't put my trust in expiration dates.
That being said, it is always wise to rotate your foods, even in your grab and go bags. There are two ways to handle rotating your supplies in your grab and go bags. The first way you can accomplish this is to put a date on your calendar and every year swap out all the ingredients in your bags, whether or not the items are past their expiration dates. Use the items from the grab n go bags to eat on for the next few days.
The other way you can handle your grab n go bags is to swap out one ingredient in your bag the first of the month. If you have three meals worth and one snack each day for three days, that's one meal a month that you can swap out the ingredients. Just make sure that you write which of the meals you're going to swap out and put it on your calendar, so that you don't leave one meal in there too long.
